Pediatricians, pediatric doctors in Danbury open during pandemic, coronavirus, COVID-19

Are you looking for pediatricians in Danbury whose offices are open during the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic? Please read this message from Dr. Paulhus:

During the pandemic, RTR Pediatrics is open, and plans to remain so.  We will continue to see our existing patients, and we are always accepting new patients. (We participate in HUSKY A and B, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Connecticare, and United Health Care. We have reasonable fees if you have no health insurance). Please note that during the pandemic and all other times, only healthy staff members are permitted to work, and that rule applies to me as well.  I am keeping the number of on-site staff to the recommended minimum right now, and we are all wearing masks for everyone’s enhanced safety.

Additionally, we are taking these steps:

First, we are screening for risk factors of coronavirus/COVID-19 during phone calls, and if there are any risk factors, we ask the parents/caregivers not to come to the office with their child.  Instead, I  will personally advise parents/caregivers on the next step.

Secondly, we have posted signs on our front door to keep folks (patients, parents/caregivers, persons for deliveries, repairs, etc.) with risk factors for coronavirus/COVID-19 from entering the office in case we had not spoken with them prior to their arrival.  The reader is instructed to remain outside and call us.  Here as well, I will personally advise the reader on the next step to be taken.

Thirdly, I am staying tuned to the ongoing updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Connecticut Department of Public Health, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the medical leadership of Danbury Hospital regarding the pandemic. If we become aware of any known or suspected coronavirus/COVID-19 cases at RTR Pediatrics, we will immediately follow the guidelines of these organizations to keep our patients, parents/caregivers, and our in-house team notified and safe.

As always, my goal is to provide great care to your children, and right now, my additional goal is to keep us all free of coronavirus/COVID-19.  This is a challenging time for our communities, nation, and the world.  It is heartbreaking to see so many suffer.  Let’s work together to follow the advice of our public health officials so we can protect everyone – especially the vulnerable – and emerge stronger from what feels like a long, but what we believe is a temporary situation.

If you’re a praying person, I would personally appreciate your prayers for wisdom and safety at this time, as I do the same for you and yours.  Thank you kindly.

Any cases of measles in Danbury, CT?

So far, and thankfully, I’m not aware of any reported cases of measles in Danbury. What’s the big deal about measles anyway? Isn’t it just a rash and fever? No. One of the worst short or long-term complications of measles is something known as “SSPE”, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, a rare, non-treatable, and non-curable condition in which brain damage, and almost always death, is the outcome. The measles vaccine is 99% effective in preventing measles. I’m so proud that 100% of RTR Pediatrics’ parents and caregivers are in favor of vaccinations. Thank you! Together, we are keeping your children and everyone in their worlds as healthy as possible. A measles infection can also pose serious risks to those who are pregnant or whose immune systems are compromised. Talk with your doctor if you have any questions about this. Hopefully, Danbury will remain measles free!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Thankgiving!  Remember to wash your hands frequently with either hand sanitizer or good ol’ soap and water.  And be sure to keep your hands away from your eyes and nose as much as possible.  They’re easy ports of entry for all the microbes out there.

If your child has not yet received a flu shot for this season, it’s not too late!  Call RTR Pediatrics at 203.628.7891 and schedule an appointment for this ASAP.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Camp and school physicals in Danbury, CT

Hello from RTR Pediatrics!  Where can I find someone to do camp and school physicals in Danbury, CT?  It’s that time of year for those camp and school physicals for sure.  Have you called us to see if we can help you? It is very easy to use our services.  We participate in the most common/popular insurance plans, including HUSKY A and HUSKY B.  We are always accepting new patients.  If you are doctor shopping, consider us for a test drive.  We would love to have you stay with us after a test drive, but that’s up to you.

With the nicer weather here, be sure to be careful when outdoors. This includes looking both ways when crossing the streets (look for cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, runners, and walkers), the use of sunscreens, keeping up your food and fluids, using ultraviolet protection sunglasses, hats, and visors.  Keep yourself protected with long sleeves and pants, especially if trekking through the woods or fields where things like poison ivy, mosquitoes and ticks like to hang out.  Yes, there is a lot to think about!

Give us a call and let us assist you with your child’s needs.  We look forward to seeing you!

Danbury Hospital Pediatricians Accepting New Patients in Danbury, CT

Hello, Dr. Paulhus here.  Hope you had a great summer!  We are in full swing at our new location.  Thanks to all of our moms and dads for entrusting us with the care of your children.  You are the ones who make RTR Pediatrics.  We have the best patients and families in Danbury, and we look forward to meeting more of the best, as we are always accepting new patients.   We participate in Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Connecticare, HUSKY, and United Health Care.  If your child does not have health insurance, give us a call, and we will explain how this works to meet your child’s medical needs as we work with your budget.

I am often asked the question if I work at Danbury Hospital.  Well, not technically, as I do not work for the hospital, but I am on the Medical Staff there, namely the Department of Pediatrics, and that makes me one of the pediatricians affiliated with Danbury Hospital.   I am permitted to see patients in the hospital (ER, nursery, or pediatrics).  However, with the presence of excellent on-site physician assistants,  emergency room physicians, neonatologists, pediatric physician assistants, and pediatricians, I relinquish the care of our patients to these folks while they’re inpatients.  Danbury Hospital is the place, however, that provides ongoing services (X-rays, ultrasounds, and other outpatient tests or procedures) for our patients, and ongoing educational credits for me by attending various, required meetings and/or courses offered at the hospital.

If you’re looking for a new pediatrician, give us a shout. (203.628.7891)  Or, better yet, come by for a visit. We look forward to seeing you!
